I let my CNA license expire. I live in Texas. What do I have to do to get it back?

No expiration date is printed on a Texas CNA certificate but every two years a certified nurse aide must contact the Texas CNA registry to report employment status. Active registry status is maintained as long as a nurse aide has been employed for a minimum of eight hours every twenty-four months. If you meet this requirement then contact the registry in order to maintain active status and be allowed to work as a CNA. On the other hand, if you have not been working for pay as a nursing assistant within the last two years then you have indeed lost your certification and active status on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry. In this case you have to retake and pass the Texas CNA state exam to be restored to active status. The application you need to print, complete, and send to the registry is the Request to Retest for Nurse Aides in Expired Status. Follow all the instructions provided in the application and make sure you include copies of the required documents. Good luck!
