Nurse Aide Training Programs in Indiana
Which individuals are eligible to challenge the CNA state exam and become certified nurse assistants in Indiana? To work as a certified nurse aide in Indiana you must complete a CNA training program and successfully pass the Indiana CNA certification exam. State approved nursing assistant courses in Indiana are one hundred and five (105) hours long and may be taken at a community college, private CNA school, or a licensed long-term care facility. A nurse aide who has completed a CNA training program in another state is also eligible to sit for the state examination in Indiana as long as the individual is listed on their state nurse aide registry as active and in good standing.
A nursing student, graduate nurse, or foreign nurse who wishes to work as a certified nurse aide may also qualify to take the certification exam. The state of Indiana allows you to challenge the CNA state exam if you are a psychiatric attendant or developmental skill technician and wish to become a certified nurse assistant. Why does the legislation allow some individuals, who have not completed CNA training courses, to challenge the nurse aide certification exam? Certain educational programs are considered acceptable and similar to that of a nurse aide and therefore allow people with specific credentials to sit for the CNA exam. To be exempt from attending a CNA training class and still be eligible for the nurse aide examination you must belong in one of the above mentioned categories.

Nursing assistant programs prepare individuals for challenging the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in health care environments. Each state has the authority to decide how many hours of training a nursing assistant course must consist of, as long as the minimum federal requirement of seventy-five hours is met. Students interested in attending CNA classes have a wide array of choices when it comes to selecting a training facility.
Nursing assistant courses are conducted at nursing homes, vocational schools, private schools, and community colleges. Program length, admission requirements, and cost of training vary depending on the policies of every training facility. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. An individual who has paid for nursing assistant training classes and who becomes employed by a nursing home within a year of obtaining certification, is eligible for financial reimbursement. Compared to other training programs in the health care field, nursing assistant classes are relatively short and inexpensive. Obtaining state certification as a CNA is the main requirement for securing a nurse aide job at a nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.
