Nurse Aide Certification Programs in Tennessee
One of the top CNA training programs in Knoxville, Tennessee is being conducted by the American Red Cross, Knoxville Chapter. Well known as one of the state's leading providers of CNA education, the school prepares students to become certified nurse assistants in Tennessee. How long is this nurse aide training class? Nurse assistant courses are five (5) weeks long, employ a combination of classroom and clinical instruction, and thoroughly prepare students for performing all nursing assistant duties and responsibilities. The state-approved CNA training program at the American Red Cross will give you the skills necessary to pass the Tennessee nurse aide certification exam and to obtain a nurse aide job in any environment, including hospitals, nursing homes, home health care, or assisted living centers.
Both day and evening CNA courses are currently being conducted, with classes meeting four days per week. If you choose to attend the nurse assistant program with classes scheduled during the evening, prepare for seven (7) weeks of attendance. Night time CNA courses take two additional weeks to complete when compared to day time classes because attendance hours are limited in the evenings. The CNA training program cost is $890 and it includes CPR training, tuition cost, nursing assistant state exam fee, and all the required textbooks. All students interested in the nurse aide classes at American Red Cross are encouraged to complete an application form and have a short interview with the nurse assistant program coordinator.

CNA Training Programs in Tennessee ( Page 11 )
Nursing assistant programs prepare individuals for challenging the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in health care environments. Each state has the authority to decide how many hours of training a nursing assistant course must consist of, as long as the minimum federal requirement of seventy-five hours is met. Students interested in attending CNA classes have a wide array of choices when it comes to selecting a training facility.
Nursing assistant courses are conducted at nursing homes, vocational schools, private schools, and community colleges. Program length, admission requirements, and cost of training vary depending on the policies of every training facility. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. An individual who has paid for nursing assistant training classes and who becomes employed by a nursing home within a year of obtaining certification, is eligible for financial reimbursement. Compared to other training programs in the health care field, nursing assistant classes are relatively short and inexpensive. Obtaining state certification as a CNA is the main requirement for securing a nurse aide job at a nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.

I have a chance to train in Nashville, TN for free to become a CNA. I live in Alabama. Can I transfer my certificate back to Alabama? I was told no transfers from Nashville.

I believe that there is a way to become listed on the Alabama Nurse Aide Registry if you have certification as a CNA in another state. You must obtain a CNA job at a nursing home in Alabama. Once you are hired as a nursing assistant in a nursing home, your CNA certification will transfer to the state of Alabama. The place of employment must be a nursing home, and not a home health care agency, hospital, or clinic. Unless you follow this process, your CNA certification will not transfer to Alabama. You should contact the Alabama CNA Registry to verify this information.
