Nurse Aide Training Programs in Pennsylvania
A certified nurse aide in Pennsylvania needs to renew her certification every two years in order to continue to provide basic care services to clients in licensed nursing facilities. Since CNA certification renewal is an important topic for every nurse assistant, you need to know how to meet the renewal requirements in Pennsylvania. Every two years, a CNA must work for pay for a minimum of eight (8) consecutive hours in an acceptable work setting, under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). What are the acceptable nursing assistant work environments which satisfy certification renewal requirements?
A nursing assistant which has worked for eight hours in the following settings qualifies for certification renewal in Pennsylvania: nursing homes, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, personal care homes, and nursing agencies. You will not qualify for renewing a CNA certification if you were self-employed, working in private duty, or working for a doctor's office. Failing to renew your nurse aide certification will result in having a lapsed certificate and inactive status on the Pennsylvania nurse aide registry. If you have a lapsed Pennsylvania nursing assistant certification and would like to return to work as a certified nurse aide, you must re-take and pass the CNA state exam. Pennsylvania nursing assistant exam candidates with a lapsed certificate are allowed only one opportunity to re-test. If you are successful, then you become re-certified. Those who do not pass the exam on their first attempt must re-take a state approved CNA training class.

Nursing assistant programs prepare individuals for challenging the nurse aide certification exam and for entry level positions in health care environments. Each state has the authority to decide how many hours of training a nursing assistant course must consist of, as long as the minimum federal requirement of seventy-five hours is met. Students interested in attending CNA classes have a wide array of choices when it comes to selecting a training facility.
Nursing assistant courses are conducted at nursing homes, vocational schools, private schools, and community colleges. Program length, admission requirements, and cost of training vary depending on the policies of every training facility. Several states have implemented legislation which requires licensed long-term care facilities to reimburse CNA employees for the costs associated with training. An individual who has paid for nursing assistant training classes and who becomes employed by a nursing home within a year of obtaining certification, is eligible for financial reimbursement. Compared to other training programs in the health care field, nursing assistant classes are relatively short and inexpensive. Obtaining state certification as a CNA is the main requirement for securing a nurse aide job at a nursing home, hospital, rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility.

I am having trouble with renewing my CNA license in Pennsylvania. I got the renewal form in the mail and it was thrown out. How can I renew everything without my numbers? It is due by August 2! Please help! Thank you!

You need to call 800-852-0518 to get your Renewal ID number. I assume you have your license number but even if you don't call the number and explain your situation. You should also visit Pearson VUE's Credentials Management System for Certification and Licensing Programs if you didn't already and after you select Pennsylvania Department of Health from the drop-down menu on that page explore the various services they offer. You need to hurry and get it done today since I don't know if they are available on weekends. Good luck!
