To be eligible for continued enrollment you are required to work for pay as a nurse aide in a nursing environment such as a nursing home, hospital or home health setting for at least eight hours during the previous 24 months of enrollment. Self-employment, private-duty, or employment in doctors’ offices are not acceptable forms of work experience for continued enrollment.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health will mail a notification of continued enrollment on the nurse aide registry to the home address of the nurse aide as listed on the registry approximately 90 days prior to expiration. If you did not receive it, you may also download and print the Pennsylvania nurse aide registry continued enrollment application from here. Follow the instructions to complete the application and mail it to the address indicated.
After your application is received and approved, your record will be updated and you will be mailed a new notice of enrollment on the nurse aide registry. It is very important that your current address is always listed on the nurse aide registry to ensure receipt of important documentation regarding your enrollment.
If you have not yet lapsed, you may also contact Pearson VUE’s office at 800-852-0518 and request a renewal application be re-mailed to your address. You may then use the log-in information to update your registry status on-line. If your registration has already lapsed, you will not be able to renew on-line.
Upon successfully renewing your enrollment status on the registry, you will be mailed a new registry card valid for the next 24 months. If you do not qualify for continued enrollment, you will be mailed a denial letter, a candidate handbook, and an application to re-test in order to maintain your enrollment on the registry.
If you were previously on the registry but you have not worked providing nursing-related services for a period of twenty-four (24) consecutive months or more, you become inactive on the registry and are assigned a denial of renewal status. You then have one opportunity to take and successfully complete the NNAAP examination without additional training. If you pass the exam, your status will change to "renewed" on the registry. If you are unsuccessful in passing the examination, you are required to re-train before re-testing. You may not be employed as a nurse aide until you have official notification of enrollment or a renewed active status.
